Your summit attempt begins around midnight, when you leave Barafu Camp and climb slowly through the darkness towards Stella Point on the crater rim. The steep trail and high altitude make this the most physically demanding stage of the journey, requiring patience, determination, and a steady pace. As dawn approaches, the first light spreads across the glaciers and surrounding mountain peaks. From Stella Point, you continue towards Uhuru Peak at 5,895 metres, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating your achievement and taking photographs, you begin the long descent towards Barafu Camp for a short rest before continuing down to Mweka Camp. The lower altitude and forest surroundings provide a welcome change after the summit climb.
